If treating a crashing, unregulated diabetes mellitus patient sounds scary, fear not.
In this two-hour webinar, we specifically reviewed diabetes ketoacidosis (DKA) and hyperglycemic, hyperosmolar syndrome (HHS), with a focus on pathophysiology, clinical presentation, clinicopathologic changes, and treatment. The most important modalities of treatment – including fluid therapy, electrolyte management, and short-acting insulin therapy/blood glucose monitoring were discussed.
A case-based approach was utilized, as we reviewed an actual case that presented for DKA. We reviewed initial triage, diagnosis, work-up, fluid therapy, electrolyte and acid-base correction, blood glucose monitoring, central line access, and insulin strategy.
