OK, full disclosure and warning. VetGirl hacked the pronunciation of all these rickettsial diseases. (Hey, English isn’t my first language. Bear with me.) To learn how to pronounce them the right way, check out the second podcast below by Dr. Newman. We were going to save them in bloopers, but figured the whole thing is one big blogger. Let the learning and pronunciation begin!

Today’s VetGirl podcast is a review of Rickettsiale diseases in dogs and cats! Since the names are a) hard to pronounce and b) keep on changing, we figured it’d be a great time to discuss Dr. Allison et al’s paper on “Diagnosis of rickettsial diseases in dogs and cats” published in Veterinary Clin Path in 2013 (out of Oklahoma State). The most important take home message from this podcast? Rickettsial diseases are best diagnosed using multiple diagnostics, including submitting a blood smear for evaluation by a clinical pathologist (to look for the infectious agent circulating in blood). Go ahead, try and pronounce them.
