In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education podcast, VETgirl’s Chief Happiness Officer, Jeannine Moga, MA, MSW, LCSW, clinical veterinary social worker, chats with Dr. Justine Lee, DACVECC, DABT about the truth about burnout in veterinary medicine. Burnout has long been framed as an individual-level problem to be addressed through individual behaviors like self-care. The World Health Organization, among others, now recognizes burnout as an occupational phenomenon that results from workplace dynamics outside the individual. This podcast will explore what burnout is, what we know about the prevalence of burnout in vet med, and what the consequences are to veterinary practices and organizations. More importantly, we discuss suicide awareness in thoughtful recognition and to raise awareness of Suicide Prevention Month.
