How to Restrain a Cat in the Veterinary Clinic

In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education video, Amy Johnson, BS, LVT, RLATG, CVJ, VETgirl's Manager of Content Development, and Michaela Witcher, MS, CVT review how to restrain a cat in the veterinary setting. This is a must know for veterinary assistants, triage, veterinary technicians,  and veterinarians. With handling the feline patient in the veterinary clinic, we want to make sure we are doing so safely, for both the cat and the staff. Learning how to restrain a cat in the veterinary clinic is important, as this needs to be done for venipuncture, radiographs, cystocentesis, IV catheter placement and other procedures. In an attempt to minimize stress in cats, ideally the use of pre-medication with drugs such as oral gabapentin and trazodone prior to the patient should be done ideally 12 hours prior to veterinary visit. Appropriate training is important to keep staff safe while handling cats in the veterinary clinic.
