December 10, 2014: Emergency management and treatment of thoracic trauma

Pneumothorax? Pulmonary contusions? Diaphragmatic hernia? Don't feel comfortable managing your HBC patients? Thoracic trauma making you tachypneic? In this VETgirl VETgirl's webinar, we discussed everything you need to know about thoracic trauma. VETgirl founders, Drs. Justine Lee and Garret Pachtinger, reviewed the emergency approach, management and treatment of thoracic trauma in small animal medicine. We reviewed the pathophysiology, clinical signs, etiologies, clinical diagnosis and overall treatment of thoracic trauma (e.g., thoracocentesis, FAST ultrasound, etc.). A case-based approach was utilized and we reviewed several common disease processes such as pneumothorax, pulmonary contusions, hemothorax, diaphragmatic hernia, and traumatic myocarditis.
