In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education video, we review pulmonary hypertension in dogs. This is often a complex disease that veterinary professonals don’t feel comfortable diagnosing or treating. Underlying causes typically include underlying respiratory disease, primary pulmonary hypertension, high altitude, heartworm disease, thromboembolic disease, etc. Treatment includes early diagnosis and treatment, bronchodilators, sildenafil (Viagra), oxygen therapy, and treatment of the underlying disease. When in doubt, pass the Viagra and treat that underlying respiratory disease earlier than later!
