In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education blog, we demonstrate how to remove a fish hook in a dog – this requires sedation, as it can be very painful! With careful manipulation, the barb(s) of the hooks can be removed with surgical manipulation and sedation. For more information, check out our other VETgirl videos HERE.

  1. Very cool! I had been taught to
    1) Sedate
    2) Push the Barb thru
    3) Cut the Barb off
    4) Pull the hook free
    5) Flush holes with antiseptic/clean wounds
I may try this on the next one! ‘Tis the season!!
    Thanks so much for sharing!
