In this VETgirl veterinary continuing education podcast, we interview Dr. Marisa Brunetti, VMD, Chief Veterinary Officer and Dr. Christina Moore, DVM, MBA, Senior Director of Clinical Excellence at IndeVets. We’re talking about importance of and need for a good system of support for veterinarians. Remember vet school when you were constantly surrounded by support, medical expertise, compassion, and a community of people who shared your passion? We’d probably get more than a few raised hands if we asked a room full of vets if, by contrast, their days now had a lot more isolation and frustration, and a lot less support and collaboration. That’s why, seven years ago, Dr. Brunetti helped create IndeVets on three firm conditions that created a radical change from what’s become the accepted standard in the vet industry. Join us as we hear from Drs. Brunetti and Moore about the radical support they provide for their vets so they can do what they love with the support they deserve.

Today’s VETgirl podcast is sponsored by IndeVets. Being a vet is hard, we know that. We didn’t get into this profession with any delusion that it would be easy. We did it because we love caring for animals. But shouldn’t there be someone caring for the caregivers? The only answer is yes. In an industry where burnout is high and support is low, change is desperately needed. Enter IndeVets. Hear two vets share how IndeVets provides the kind of support that is radically overdue.

  1. I am an avid fan of your platform and was terribly disappointed by this podcast. It was essentially an infomercial for IndeVet and I do not believe it was in alignment with your mission to educate your veterinary audience. As a passionate practitioner and owner of a small animal veterinary client, advocating that “relief veterinarian work” is the way of the future, and best for profession and veterinarian is false.
Veterinary medicine is not a transactional only profession. Pet parents desire a long term relationship with their veterinarian over the lifetime of their pet. A relief veterinarian who comes into a practice for a day or 2 can not be meet these clients needs or desires. They do not even call clients with test results the following day or follow up with their progress. This lack of continuity of care is not good for pet’s well- being.
I’ve only had one interaction with Indevet and it was terribly disappointing. The veterinarian who came seemed disinterested in learning about the practice and how we interact with clients. This person appeared to be watching the clock for his departure.
As a member of a hospital team, veterinarians establish relationships with not only fellow team members but also clients. This can be tremendously rewarding – unlike how it was described on your podcast. At my hospital and at many others, a collaborative environment exists along with continual learning and growth. Please don’t diminish the high value of being part of a veterinary practice team. For me, and I suspect many others, it has been a priceless and rewarding experience..
