In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education video, we demonstrate a method for applying a tie-over bandage as part of the management of a thermal burn wound in a dog. This thermal burn likely occurred following utilization of improper heating sources or an inappropriately grounded cautery unit utilized during a previous surgery. With wound management, client communication and education are essential due to the long-term management (e.g., lots of veterinary visits for bandage changes and/or surgical repairs!). Pet owners should be aware that wounds may worsen or enlarge before they ‘get better’ as the damaged tissue continues to declare itself following the initial insult. Watch how the initial management of this wound sets it on track for healing!
