In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education video, we demonstrate how to set up sunction for abdominocentesis. Typically, we only perform this with there is a massive amount of chronic effusion (e.g., right-sided congestive heart failure, neoplasia, etc.), as this is not necessary or warranted in diagnostic centesis procedures or smaller amounts. Aseptic technique should be utilized. As the suction container is not sterile, the fluid should not be collected directly from there for culture or autotransfusion.
