Cat with FLUTD? Stress? Hematuria? I need help!

In this 2-hour VETgirl webinar, Dr. Meghan Herron, DACVB and Dr. Margie Scherk, DABVP (Feline Practice) will review common elimination problems in cats and the diagnostic approach to cats with lower urinary tract signs. Learn how the integration of behavior and medicine can help your feline patients achieve the best possible outcomes in this two-part session.

PLEASE NOTE: In general, VETgirl (e.g., Justine, toxicologist), doesn’t recommend the use of oral diazepam in cats due to the very rare, but idiosyncratic risk of hepatotoxicity in cats. And the jury is still out on prazosin, with some sources saying prazosin helps in comparison to phenoxybenzamine and some studies saying there’s no obvious benefit of prazosin in the blocked cat (2017) when compared to placebo (2021).

  1. When doing the no cath, decompress the bladder method for blocked cats- do you have to repeat the cystocentesis? keep the cats well drugged with all 3 meds?

  2. I thought the oral form of Diazepam can cause liver failure in cats but here it’s recommended as an antispasmodic for ongoing care after urinary obstruction?
