Need to brush-up on your analgesia and anesthesia?

This 2-hour, online veterinary CE VETgirl webinar was presented by anesthesia-critical care guru Dr. Jane Quandt, DVM, MS, DACVA, DACVECC. She discussed the top 10 tips veterinary professionals need to be aware about for both analgesia and anesthesia.

The top 10 tips we reviewed were:

1. Monitoring what does pulse oximetry and capnography tell you

2. What new drugs are available for anesthesia/analgesia

3. How to do a local coccygeal block for the obstructed cat

4. What type of fluid therapy is used for general anesthesia

5. How to sedate the fractious dog or cat

6. How to anesthetize the diabetic patient

7. How to sedate/anesthetize the trauma patient

8.How to manage hypotension

9. What makes for a good recovery

10. The importance of record keeping

Dr. Quandt also reviewed new pain management modalities such as transdermal fentanyl, local anesthetics, and updates in multimodal analgesic therapy. The webinar also reviewed strategies for anesthesia in emergent patients, those with specific metabolic disease, or those that are fractious!
