In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education video blog, we demonstrate how to perform a scrotal neuter in a dog. While neutering has traditionally been performed in the pre-scrotal area, shelter medicine veterinarians have found good anecdotal success performing scrotal neuters. Thanks to Dr. Graham Brayshaw from the Animal Humane Society in Minnesota for helping with this video blog!

  1. Interesting idea. I would also love a follow up on showing the closure you perform with a scrotal neuter. Is the access to drain the main benefit of scrotal neuters and the main way to decrease the chances of hematoma formation? I believe I was taught that dogs lick the prescrotal incision less, but I’ve no idea if that is true.
