This is a common daily procedure that veterinarians and veterinary technicians must feel comfortable performing. When in doubt, don’t cause clipper burn, be well prepared, wear gloves (ideally), use aseptic technique and wrap appropriately (depending on how long the catheter will stay in place for.

  1. Taping the actual fluid line to the patient’s IVC site is not really ideal when they need to be taken outside, without un-taping and re-taping each time.

  2. I’m used to shaving all the way around for hospitalized patients. We don’t use teguderm though, maybe that makes a difference? Otherwise, this followed what I’m used to from school.
